Happy {Heart} Day

Happy Valentine’s Day!
Yesterday I took some time out from filling orders to make a heart pendant.  This pendant was one of the awesome lessons from the Aspire to Wire ecourse that I just completed.

This is made from strips of copper, held together with fine silver rivets.

I used one of my glass headpins to form the loop for the chain.  I thought the droplet shape fit perfectly inside the heart chamber.
Lots of fun to make, but then it was back to working on orders and packaging some up for Valentine’s.

I am starting to enjoy packing my orders as much as making them!
Have a wonderful day filled with LOVE!

Crazy Wonky Heart Potholders

{Have you ever heard about a situation and it just breaks your heart and you feel like you HAVE TO do something about it?A few months back I met a lady, Lovely Reckley, and she told me how she goes to four different schools in Abaco and feeds 85+ children that would have otherwise had no lunch. For some of these kids, this is the only meal of the day.Lovely even takes food to some of them when school is out.That really broke my heart. I mean, I know there are kids all over the world that are starving, but when I realized there were children right under my nose it killed me. I kept wondering what I could do. I thought about offering to help cook, but cooking for so many mouths really overwhelmed me. Then I realized what a COMMITMENT this awesome woman had made to these children…..EVERYDAY!!!At Christmas, instead of giving gifts I gave a donation to her organization (and to our Humane Society) instead of buying things that people really didn’t need.But it kept tugging at my heart. So, I decided for the month of February I would post several heart themed items to my blog. They would be for sale, and I would give 25% of the cost of the item to Lovely, to help with her costs.I may post an item everyday or I may post several items a week…..I am really not sure, but 25% will go to “Feed the Children” in Abaco, Bahamas.I CANNOT imagine going without food, or only having one meal a day that I had to rely on someone else to bring to me, and these children shouldn’t have to deal with this either, so please help!}

Happy Monday everyone!!
I slacked off the end of last week on posting….sorry about that!! Will make up for it this week hopefully!  Thursdays I work at my husband’s business, so that day got away from me.  Friday I went into town to run a few errands and grocery shop and came home with a little foster puppy.  So my afternoon was spent doing puppy time 🙂  Very therapeutic!

My item for today is a set of potholders that I have named, Crazy Wonky Hearts.  They are bright, colorful, wonky and fun!!

The hearts are made from Jennifer Heynen’s, aka Jangles, first fabric line.  I have had these fabrics for a while and just couldn’t cut them because they were so pretty!!
I am glad I saved them for these potholders.  I think they are perfect!

These hearts are free pieced, no pattern, so one came out a different size than the other, but I think that gives them some fun character!

Who wants matchy-matchy anyway?
The hearts may be different sizes, but the potholders are both 9 inches square.

The backs have a hanger on one of the top corners.
These potholders are $28 for the set, and 25% of that goes to Feed the Children Abaco.
Later today I will get them in my Etsy shop……{HERE}
Or you can message me on my Bahama Dawn Facebook page…..{HERE}

Have a beautifully creative week!!

Heart of Blues Takes Flight ~ Pay it Forward February

Happy Monday!
I am late posting today, but better later than never.
Today’s item is an enameled copper heart with filigree wings.
I am calling this piece, “Heart of Blues Takes Flight”.

From wing tip to wing tip the pendant is two and a half inches.  When it hangs on a chain, it hangs about an inch and three quarters.

I am really enjoying incorporating other metals into my work.  I have a bunch of filigree (which I think is coated brass) that I bought for who-knows-what, and never used it.

It can be soldered onto other metals, cut and enameled!  So much fun!
This piece is $44, and 25% goes to Feed the Children Abaco.  That price is for the pendant only.

I will be posting it in my Etsy shop…..{HERE}…..soon, but if you go there and it is not there, drop me a message because my internet connection is really slow right now so it may take a while to get it posted.
Thanks for stopping by!

Another quick post today for my heart item, since I am still suffering with a throat infection. I am feeling a bit better but my voice doesn’t want to seem to come back.
Today’s item is a set of Patchwork Heart Potholders.

The piecing is not exact since they were randomly pieced.
They are both 9 inches square, and have a hanger on the back.
The backs are Bahama Hand Prints, which is a locally made, screen printed fabric.

And dont worry about that white fabric…..they are totally machine washable.

They are $28 for the set, and 25% of that goes to Feed the Children Abaco.
They are listed in my Etsy shop HERE.
{this set of potholders has been sold 🙂 THANK YOU!!!}

Have a great week!

I hope you love these earrings as much as I do!! This is the very first pair of stud earrings that I have ever made!

They are about a half of an inch wide. Very sweet and simple.

I made them from Precious Metal Clay. I rolled out the clay, textured it, cut out the shape and then sent it to the kiln for firing. The hearts and the ear studs are fine silver. The backs are sterling silver.

You can find them in my Etsy shop……HERE. {sorry, these have been sold since I wrote the post}
They are $28, and 25% of that will go to Feed the Children Abaco.

Thank you & have a great weekend!

Good Morning!
My heart item for today is this Brave Heart Pendant.

It is made from copper, fine silver and one of my glass headpins.

The copper heart I cut out of sheet copper, stamped, filed and textured it.
The silver tear drop is made from PMC3, which when kiln fired turns into fine silver.

I finished it off with one of my glass headpins. Connecting them all together with fine silver wire.

This pendant is $48, the chain is sold separately.
If you are outside of the Bahamas, you will be able to purchase it from my Etsy store, HERE!
25% goes to help “Feed the Children in Abaco”.
Thanks for stopping by!
Go out into the world with a brave heart today!

i {heart} hearts

I am not sure what has gotten into me lately, but I have been totally smitten with hearts for several months now. I think I have been trying to repress this also, but I no longer can. They are sneaking out into my work like I have no control.
My style really seems to be changing, but I am enjoying the transformation, and just creating from my heart.
As you have heard me say, I am getting ready for a show next weekend. I am trying not to show too much of my new work. For one, I want people who come to the show to be able to see new things, and then I get in a pickle if someone wants to buy it and then I am short of stock for my show.
B U T……I just have to show you a few things that I am so proud of!
First this set of jewelry….heart of blues…..

Then this journal that I made after reading a bible verse on Pinterest (yes, i am addicted to pinning also!)
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it” Proverbs 4:23
WOW! That is the perfect verse for an artist!
Here is the journal I was inspired to make after reading that verse.

I love the texture in this……

If it were my journal I wouldnt be able to stop touching all the textures and frays.

I hope this journal gets a really special home…..

and that the owner of this journal remembers…
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it” Proverbs 4:23
