Something Finished

In one of my posts at the end of December I had a whole long list of unfinished projects that needed my attention.  This week I managed to get another one of those UFO’s DONE!!
My very first crocheted pillow!!!!  All for me 🙂
I love the scalloped trim.
This is the back…….and this is what took sooooooooo long!!!  Rows and rows and rows of single crochet!!! What was I thinking?  I am glad I persevered and did it thought because it has a cool look.
The buttons for the closure was a bit of a challenge also, but it is DONE!!
I am now trying to decided which pattern I will use for my next pillow.
I also wanted to show you some new glass that I got in last week.
I’ll soon be showing you some new beads and jewelry pieces from these yummy colors!
Today I broke down and ordered a bead annealer.  The kind you put the beads in as soon as you have made them.  Right now I am making them, then putting them in the kiln later on.  I also can’t get PMC and enameling off my brain and I have the materials…..I just need to do it!
Hope you all have a very Happy Easter 🙂

Creative Project #5 for February….something in on the road.

Today was a pretty busy day.  We are emptying our upstairs to have spray foam insulation put in……and *maybe*, just *maybe* one of the rooms upstairs may become a classroom for me to teach quilting.  I have gotten a lot of requests lately and am starting to feel like I should pay it forward.
So the morning was spent emptying two huge rooms, then after lunch my husband and I took a road trip to another town….40 minutes away ~ far for the islands!…..to attend a fundraiser for a friend’s mom.
If I was gonna create today I had to take something on the road.  I had gotten an email from Lion Brand Yarns this morning featuring some patterns, and one of them was a cute little crocheted envelope.
Just before we left I got it started.
Here it is in the car when I completed it.  You can take a look at our *highways* 🙂
When I got home I sewed on a button for a clasp.
Makes the perfect jewelry pouch!
My husband has also been creative!  For Christmas he got a home brewing kit to make his own beer.  We are beer connoisseurs!  And tonight the time had come to taste the first batch, after 3 weeks of waiting!
It was awesome!  This batch was Lager and the next batch will be Draught.
And I know this beer is vegan!
Hope you have all had a wonderful Saturday!

Off to a Good Start!

In just the first week of the year I have gotten some projects finished!!  One of my UFO’s is finished, one is on its way but may take a while, and I wouldnt be a creative soul if I didnt start two new ones……which I have finished!!
This is a place mat I made out of one of those house blocks.
I am calling this one “bird and bug house”.  I love the scarppy-ness of this!
I am acquiring quite a collection of place mats which go along with my mismatched collection of plates.  For those of you that do not know, I collect odd dinner plates.  It looks so cool when we have a big dinner party and everyone has a different plate.  I’ll start working on some pictures of my plate collection and blog about that one day soon.
One of the new projects I started last Monday is a crocheted tissue box cover.  I have had this pattern saved in my favorites forever and finally got to it.
You can find the pattern for this here on the Royal Sisters blog.  Scroll down and you will find the button for the tutorial on the right side.
Everyone needs a pretty cover for those hideous tissue boxes!
I just adore crocheted flowers and found this pattern the other day and, of course, just had to try it out especially since I have a few unfinished scarfs that will need some type of embellishment.
I wish I could provide the link to this pattern, but I saved the PDF pattern to my hard drive and did not save the website to my favorites.
Remember that blue and green granny square that I was crocheting into a pillow cover?  I got the granny square done for the front and started doing a panel for the back.  I decided to do a single crochet panel with stripes for the back and it is taking F.O.R.E.V.E.R.!!!
I will be pleased with it when it is finished, but it may have been quicker to make another granny square for the back.

So there is my update on my resolution to get some projects FINISHED!
Have a great weekend!!

a peek into 2011

I think most people feel like I do….*where did 2010 go?*
I have spent the last 3 days cleaning and straightening my studio.  Did I ever make a mess in 2010!!! WOW!!!  I am still not finished and want to get to my sewing machine but can’t see it right now.  Plus, I don’t dare start working while there still a mess in that room or I will become too comfortable with that and the cleaning process will never be completed.
I found quite a few (okay far too many to admit to) UFO’s while rearranging and sorting, and decided this is my main goal for 2011……to finish, finish, finish!!!
Thought you would be interested to see a few…..and throughout the year you can *encourage* me to post pictures of finished pieces!!
Well first there was the huge rubbermaid container of quilt tops (made by me) that need to be quilted.  Below are just 6 that I spread out on top of the quilting machine.
A few of my favorites were hanging up.  I must have thought I was going to get to them soon!! HAHA!!
I am so in love with this red pineapple one…..I MUST MUST finish that one first!
There is this one that I started right after I got married……over a decade ago!!! EEEKKK!
It is a king size so that took some time……like a decade!!  I have another one, that will be a king size one day also,  that I started around the same time and the blocks still need to be sewn together.
And I also found tons of little projects that need to be *finished*.
These house blocks were meant for a give away quilt but I couldn’t get the finished size right, so I think I will make them into placemats.
This is another unfinished placemat, just needs quilting, that I made up with a variety of sampler blocks.
Oh and let’s not forget the crochet!!!  Two years ago I FINALLY figured out how to crochet and do not have one finished project that I own to show for it!  I have given away lots of things!
The granny square below will be a pillow.  I am working on it right now, so perhaps this will be the first UFO that is completed.
Then there are a few crocheted scarves that are so close to being finished.  It has been REALLY cold here also….so I could really get some use out of these!
This was my first big crochet project….and it only needs like two more rows of hexes to be a throw.
Here is a scarf I finished for a swap:
Speaking of swaps…..I have blocks from a Bee Liberated Group I am in on Flickr, that need to be sewn together and added to that pile to be quilted.
I have been fortunate enough to have some great swap partners this year and below is just a sample of some of the pieces I have received.
I almost forgot about my Baker’s Dozen Group on Raverly.  I have received all my blocks and now need to stitch them all together.
One more item that is long over due is my bathroom vanity counter.  I have been in my house for 8 years this February and I have painted this poor cabinet three different colors, at three different times.  Then I had it ready to do an aged technique on it…….since then I re-primed it and have mermaids drawn on it, but they are too light to see in this picture…..I would really like to finish this project!
So this list of things should keep me busy until about July 2011!!!
And I didn’t mention art shows I am signed up for in January and February, orders I need to fill, dogs to train for agility, that knitting hobby I need to conquer, and new jewelry ideas in my head that need to come out!
Please keep me accountable on these projects 🙂  I am grateful for all of you that miss my long, crazy posts when I disappear from the world of blogging!  Thanks for asking where I am!
Incase you don’t hear from me before….have the best 2011 ever!!!

More Mail!!!

Today the mail goodness continued!!!  I received my pillow swap package in the mail!
I cannot believe how well my partner figured me out!
Not sure if you can see it too well in this photo, but those four flowers in the middle are crocheted, and the back is totally crocheted!
And the color combination is perfect.  Above I photographed the pillow on my window seat in my studio.  Below it is on my deck (but i would NEVER leave this outside)
And here it is on my couch……
Where, oh where shall I display it?  I will probably keep it on my window seat, in my studio, and put it on my couch when guests come over.  I love this pillow so much!
I am trying to finish up my pillow for my partner so I can mail it out on Monday.
I also received four more blocks for my 3.5 inch block swap……
There is a picnic quilt, a watermelon, utensils and a pitcher of lemonade.  The lemonade block was complete with a lemonade recipe!
Here are the blocks I have so far together.  I have 8 more to receive.
These blocks are going to make a really cute quilt!
My pictures today are a bit dull because it was stormy and overcast when I took them, but couldn’t wait to show you!
Don’t forget this Saturday is the start of the Bead Soup Party reveal!! There are so many jewelry artists participating this round that the group has been split up to show off their creations.  My day is this Saturday.  Come back on Saturday to see my reveal and hop around other jewelry blogs to see what others have created.
See you on Saturday!

My Final Three Packages

So sorry I didn’t post yesterday, but we are having horrible power outages here.  Even though we have a generator to run the house, the internet company does not have a generator at their plant so when the power goes out I have no internet.  I spent the day making jewelry and hanging out by the pool……..aaahhhh so relaxing!
Here is another package I received in the mail on Friday……
This package came from Calamity Kim and it was for the placemat swap.  Kim and I decided to do two placemats for each other, and she also sent me some tea that is just divine, a bagel spreader with a hummingbird handle, and sweet little handmade card and a Mary Jane’s Farm magazine.  I LOVE this magazine.  One of the articles in this magazine is one getting your first goat…..perfect!!!  I am still working on getting my chickens, but the goat is on the list also!
Here is a close-up of the placemats……
Bright and pretty batiks with a tropical applique.  They will be perfect for out in the cabana……
Thanks so much for the great package Kim!  Go and check out Kim’s blog.  She does some awesome work and works in more mediums than I do….if you can believe that!
I also got in the mail a 3.5″ block for one of the flickr groups I am in with the BBQ/Picnic theme, from Ruthiequilts.
How cool is this block?  And the detail with the embroidered mustard and ketchup!  Awesome Ruthie!  I sent out my sunshine blocks last week, and they should be getting to my partners this week.  This will be a fun collection of blocks when I get them all.
My final package was a African Flower crochet square.
This is a Raverly group I am in where I send out these blocks and receive them from others.  Only thing is this one came with no name on the envelope, so I need to do some searching to figure out who it came from to thank them!
Hope these posts have inspired some of you to join some swaps!
Have a great week!

Swaps Gifts and E-Courses!!!

We know summer has started here in Abaco when we start having multiple power outages everyday!!!
UGH!!!!
It has made me get VERY behind on work, blogging and swapping.
When I have had time to surf the internet, I have been taking an e-course by Kelly Rae Roberts, called “Flying Lessons”  It is about making your creative business soar.  It just started on Sunday and I am enjoying every moment so far.
Today she talked about doing other e-courses and blogging.  So I went searching for more e-courses I could take.
I found a photography course called “Picture Summer”, by Tracey Clark, and thought this would be good for me since I have a very nice Canon Rebel, don’t really know how to use it and I am never pleased with the pictures I take of my artwork or for my blog.  It is only a 30 day course and hopefully it will push me to play with my camera and try some new things.
While the power was out earlier I was playing with my muse, Sunshine, and the camera…..
Then I ran out after lunch to pick up my mail and more swap envelopes were awaiting me!!!!!
From Jennie at www.cloverandviolet.com I received my embroidery quilt.
This is so pretty and summery!!!! Thanks so much Jennie!  It is the perfect little embroidery quilt!
I also received my Anything Goes Mini Quilt from Sara of SaraSQuilts on Flickr.
I cannot believe how small she made those flying geese!!! And I love all the colorful fabrics with the solid gray!! Thank you Sara…I LOVE IT!!!
Also awaiting me was another African Flower crochet block from the Raverly Swap….from Val in the UK!
Along with two little coasters, some candy and a pair of stitch markers.  Thanks so much Val!!
So this was my whole bundle here…..
I’ll be back soon to show you some new jewelry pieces.
Time to run off and do some agility with my dog and her doggie friends at class!
