A few sneak peeks……

Hello!
A lot has been going on the last week or so.  I thought I would show you what I have been up to, and what has kept me away from blogging.
I have been trying to finish up my swaps.
Here is the beginning of my Doll Quilt Swap…..
I have done more to it, but just not quite ready for another reveal yet.
Here are a few quilts, some swaps, that need the bindings sewn down…..
Here is a sneak peek of a swap I finished and need to pop into the mail.
I wish I could show it to you.  I love the way it turned out and hope my partner loves it as much as I do!
I did this painting as a donation to Friends of the Environment…..
And realized that I really missed the paint brush, so I did this…..
It is a painting of my kitty “Sunshine”.  All over the painting there are sunshine-y sayings and quotes.  I am looking forward to doing some more painting.  It is very therapeutic to me.
I helped out with a fundraiser for Abaco’s animals, called “Cause for Paws”.  I made these take a chance games…..a cat….
and a dog…..
I won two, pretty awesome prizes at this game 🙂
I also made this quilt for an auction prize…..
So that is some of what I have been up to.
Da Market is on Saturday, and I am racing around getting ready for that also.
Bye for now 🙂

something for me :)

The other night when I took my journal covers over to my mom to ask her advice on pricing, my husband looked at one with a bird on it (i think it was in the last post) and said that the bird needed a sign that said, “eat more veggies”.
That night when i went to bed a design popped into my head, and i sat up and sketched it out right then!
Here is the front:
This one is mine for sure!
The back:
The entire cover opened up:
I really love this one!
I am wrapping things up for the show now.  The last pottery load is in the kiln, which just shut off, so now I get to wait for it to cool.  Hopefully late tonight i can peek inside.
This afternoon I will finish the last few pillows and try and get everything in one place so the transport can start.
If the sun ever comes out here I need to take pictures of my new jewelry pieces which I keep promising to show you.  Hopefully that will happen this afternoon.
back to work…………… 🙂

kiln is FINALLY done!!

The absolute worst part of pottery is the waiting time….waiting for the greenware to dry so you can fire it….waiting for the kiln….waiting for the paint to dry so you can glaze, waiting for another firing!
This morning I was finally able to pull out the platters I put in yesterday morning!
“Morning Song”  This one matches the table, a pillow and some artwork that I have made.
They were worth the wait.  I love all the colors!
“Owl and Friend”
So then I loaded the kiln back up with some greenware that need to be turned into bisque, and needed something to occupy my time  so I made some journal covers for the show this weekend.
These are a few of my favorites.
There are a  few more small projects to finish for the show, price everything, pack up my show supplies and then enjoy the weekend selling and talking to artists and customers.
Hope you are all having a great week!

Home Sweet Home.

I have spent the last few days finishing some swap projects and trying to get ready for an art show in two weeks!  The first swap quilt I can only show you sneak peeks of since I am not sure if my partner reads my blog, and in this swap we know each other.
This was a swap for a BBQ/Picnic Mini Quilt.
If you are friends with me on facebook, then you saw this quilt yesterday.
Some of my favorite things are in this mini quilt!
Can you guess what they are?
This is being shipped from Florida tomorrow, so when my partner receives it I can post the picture of the entire quilt.
I also had a deadline for a pillow swap.  I am pretty sure my partner does not read my blog, but she doesn’t know who her partner is anyway, so I can show you the entire pillow.
One of her preferences was blues and greens.  I had so much fun making this pillow and had a hard time actually *stopping*!  The fabrics that make up the house in the middle are vintage fabrics.
I embroidered “home sweet home” under the house and added two little blue birds.
I also quilted the grass at the bottom and wanted to add flowers, but wasn’t sure how much of a flower fan my partner was so thought I should STOP!
If I ever get the time to make myself one (she says while daydreaming!) then i will add flowers to the bottom!
And YES…..blue and green AGAIN!!!  Just cant get away from it!
Well, back to working on orders and trying to get some stock for that art show!!

And the WInner is……..

Congrats to Amy (During Quiet Time Blog) for winning the Island Birds Journal and the Copper Pendant in yesterday’s giveaway!  The winner was chosen by random number generator, and the lucky number was 6 for the 6th post.
Amy, email me your address please 🙂
Thank you all for participating and for all your kind comments!  I will be doing more giveaways now that I got the first one under my belt, so stay tuned!
Here is a picture of the entire journal cover for those of you who weren’t so lucky this time….
Also wanted to show you two new pieces that I put up on Etsy.
The first is “Bahama Sunburst”
It is about 19 inches long and is made up of a Jangles pendant and spacer bar, bezeled sea glass, my lampworked beads, silver wire components, sterling silver findings and gun metal chain.
The second one is Owl Love…..
I was so excited the other day when I made that “love” charm.  I embroidered the letters and the heart then sandwiched it in between glass and soldered it closed!  Very pleased with myself to be able to combine two of my passions like that!
This necklace also has a Jangles owl bead, my lampworked bead, gun metal chain, sterling silver findings and silk ribbon.  It is about 22 inches long.
Lorelei had a ribbon tutorial on her blog the other day.  You can find her blog in my list of “blogs you should check out” over on the right.  I had seen this done before and never tried it.  It makes a very comfortable necklace.  I forgot I had the necklace on!  I always wear my pieces for an hour or so to make sure they are comfortable, hang right etc…
Have a great day!

50th Blog Post Giveaway

Hard to believe I have had 50 blog posts.  When I started it was pretty painful sometimes to come up with something to say, so it would go weeks between posts.  Now I am more comfortable with it and have met a whole community of new friends thru blogging.
I know, you’re thinking…blah, blah, blah….get on with the giveaway :)….but before I do I want to tell you about another blog giveaway.
My friend Heather, at alamodefabric, is having a giveaway as well.  So go check out her blog also.  She is giving away a set of fabric hexagons and a gift certificate to the Sew Deerly Loved etsy store.
Go check out that etsy store as well.  Lots of cool fabrics, Japanese fabrics, MunkiMunki fabrics.
All of these giveaways were inspired by the sewmamasew blog!  You will find lots of other giveaways on that blog also.  And yes I am a day late chiming in but I was waiting for my 50th post!
So here is my giveaway…….
A quilted journal cover for a composition book.  I named this “island birds”
Also thought I’d throw this in as well……
It is a copper and sterling silver pendant that I made…….”let your heart soar”
So to enter the giveaway you have to post a comment here, under this post, not on facebook, and I will announce the winner tomorrow.
I will use a computerized random generator to choose the winner……so it is all totally random!
Good luck and thanks for reading and following my blog 🙂

Some New T’ings

I have been fiddling around with some new stuff these past few days.  Needed a break for my imagination.
First I had to do some potholders for the Potholder Pass in Flickr, and I had this idea in my head to do the free form letters on them.  This was the outcome, and now I wish I had a set for me!
“Live Love Laugh”
One of my, many, favorite sayings!
I have also been itching to try some new things at the torch.  So I took some time this morning to try out a frog:
I thought it was okay for my first attempt.  Here is his back:
And I had tried a hollow bead a few weeks ago, couldn’t get it to work, but I am not one to let that discourage me, so I tried again:
It is not the perfect bead shape….BUT it is HOLLOW!!  I know some flame working pros are probably thinking “I can’t believe she is posting these ugly beads”, but since I either figure things out in my head or read a book, I am pretty proud of myself.
Also attempted a heart….this needs work:
Not sure what design that is on the front…..just a blob of color!
Thought I’d try a white on white color combo also, which should look cool with some bezeled sea glass pieces:
So, in a nutshell, that is what I did today.  Now they all need to sit in the kiln and be annealed……tomorrow maybe 🙂

Hectic Week with a Good Ending!

Had one of those weeks where I was working, working, working and still I am not close to finishing items for orders.  I hate when I have done so much work and don’t have much to show for it.
I can show you these silk painted pillows that I finished last week for an order.
The silk panel is handpainted, and machine quilted.  Then the batik borders are added, and the piping and the zipper finishes it off.
At least I had a nice surprise to end a weary week……..
It is my Urban Home Goods Swap package from my secret partner!!! eeeeekkkkk…..an apron, a tea towel with an embroidered owl, a bookmark, and frog shaped tea strainer, a sweet card and these precious felt hearts.
It is a secret until you get the package!  These great items came from Jennifer.  Her blog is here.  Go check it out, she does some neat fabric work and also does silversmithing…..we have quite a bit in common!
I will be saving that apron to wear at my next show.  I am too messy when i cook to wear that beauty for cooking!  I love aprons.  They give you extra pockets for little items you may need when working a show.
Above is a close-up of the tea towel, bookmark, felt hearts, notecard and the froggy tea strainer.
Great little surprise to end a hectic week!

A Fellow Jewelry Artist

This morning I wanted to tell you about a jewelry artist who’s work I am totally in love with.
I met this artist thru the blogging, flickr and facebook, and we are thinking about doing a collaborative piece of jewelry together.
Here is one of Lorelei’s pieces that is in my *small* collection!
She is having a giveaway on her blog today, so head over there and check it out.
She is great at taking components from many different artists and putting them together to make one piece of jewelry.  Each piece is such a work of art.
She also makes some of her own components, and has started to do some resin pieces with her own artwork in the bezels.
Above is another piece that belongs to me!
Go check out her blog, enter the giveaway, and you may win some awesome pendants that she made.
From her blog you can go to her flickr and her etsy shop and see even more wonderful pieces of jewelry.
I promise you wont be disappointed!!!

Happy! Happy! Happy!

Just like that little quilt top says, thats what I am!
A few months ago I got involved in several swap groups on flickr.  The first one was a Spring Fling Mini Quilt.  Had to be a mini quilt with a spring theme and between 6″-12″….easy enough!!! This is the idea that popped into my head (below) that I sent to my partner.  In this swap we were told who our partners were.  We could find out preferences, get to know each other and have fun!
So yesterday I received my quilt from my partner.  I was totally blown away!  It is the cutest little mini quilt ever made!  And to make it even more awesome, it is backed in vintage fabric!!!  I LOVE vintage fabrics!
Praire points, embroidery, buttons, pieced letters……WOW!!!
A couple weeks ago I was checking out some blogs of other quilters and came across this tutorial for these pieced letters that I had seen on so many quilts.  It is a lot of free cutting and piecing and I am pretty impressed at how small my partner can do these letters!  ALL of her letters are almost as big as one of mine!  I just thought it was pretty neat that I was trying to make these letters and I receive a quilt with them in it!  The piece I made was the “happy” piece at the top.
Here is the link to the tutorial if you would like to give it a try.
I also made that little flower from a tutorial which you can find here on the House of Krom blog.
Not sure how I am going to put the two together but that is for later.
My very first quilt swap from last fall, from the Quilting Gallery website.
This is the fall inspired quilt that I received in that swap.
Love this quilt also, and it hangs in my studio near my sewing machine.  Batiks, cotton solids, half square triangles, beads, fall leaves…..awesome fall quilt!!  This came from Sew It Up Baby.  It will always be so special because it is my very first swap quilt.
This gal does some amazing quilts and quilted projects so check out her blog and be inspired.
So after I opened the quilt swap envelope, which I had to restrain from doing in the car WHILE driving home, I had a few other boxes to open that were online orders.  One was a box with my new running shoes in it.
woohoo!!! Yellow and Lime green!!!!
I see this envelope in that box (sometimes my shipper does that so small packages don’t get lost), and I realized it was probably my potholders from the potholder swap I was in!!!!  In this swap our partners were secret.  We gave a hint of what we liked in our sign up email and from there our partners had to check out our blogs and flickr pages to get a feel for what we liked.
I think my partner did a pretty good job!
How cute are they????  Blue and green – 2 of my favorite colors; a log cabin – love those; and a BIRD!!!!  I think these will be hung as decoration, not used on hot pans that are dripping with food to stain them!!  And my partner sent a cute little fabric card with a sweet note inside.
As if those two swap packages weren’t enough goodness for one day I also got my new mini kiln, so I don’t have to make lots and lots of beads and ceramics before I can actually fire, and my Spring Fling swap partner sent me some quilting tools as extra goodies.
A magnetic pin case, a seam ripper with a hidden compartment and a fancy little sewing box with notions.
The day ended with doggie school with agility and fun with great people and some awesome dogs 🙂
Doesn’t get much better!
